We may never know the true meaning of the Temples that were built so profusely in prehistoric Malta, we may never even find out how or why so much effort was invested in them. I enjoy listening to others people's theories and claims, but all I know is how much I enjoy painting in them and the way they affect me and my work. I feel a deep sense of connection in them, to myself, my work and to something that goes much deeper than both....

Marija Gimbutas - challenged the male-dominated archaeology of the 19th century by unearthing strong evidence of a widespread prehistoric matriarchal society spread across central Europe. She was thrilled with her discoveries in Malta and mentioned her finds here in all her subsequent books.
